Text: Pavlov’s Day
Pavlov is the President of a foreign trade company.
In the morning he gets up at about 6.30 (six-thirty). His wife and children get up later. He goes to the bathroom to take a bath. Then he has breakfast. For breakfast he usually has a cup of coffee and sandwiches. He leaves for work at 8 (eight) o’clock. It takes him about 20 (twenty) minutes to get to work by car. His office hour begins at 8.30 (eight-thirty).
At 9 (nine) a.m. Pavlov’s secretary brings him letters and reminds him about the appointments of the day. He reads the mail and sends answers to foreign firms. He also receives foreign businessmen at his office. They often come to discuss prices, terms of delivery, shipment, payment and other business matters. Sometimes he goes abroad on business to have talks with foreign customers. Pavlov speaks English rather well.
At 12.30 (twelve-thirty) he has lunch, mostly at the office (he asks his secretary to order it), or from time to time at a cafй, not far from the office.
Pavlov finishes work at 6 (six) o’clock in the evening, but if there is some urgent business, he stays at the office later.
He usually has dinner at home, together with his family. After dinner he reads newspapers or watches TV. He often likes to help his wife about the house or his children with their homework. Pavlov goes to bed at about 11(eleven) p.m.
His days off are normally Saturday and Sunday, but these days don’t differ greatly from the working days. However, they stay in bed longer at the week-end. He often takes his children for a walk or goes to the theatre or cinema with his wife. They also enjoy inviting their friends to their house. They always have a good time together!
