The importance of home is depicted in languages of all the nations: we say "East or West, home is best. For me there is no place like home. Ukraine is my native country, it’s my home. Ukraine is a country with the glorious past. One of the best cities of Ukraine is Kyiv. Kiev (or Kyiv) is the capital of Ukraine, its political, administrative, cultural and scientific centre. According to the ancient legend Kiev was founded by three brothers: Kij, Shchek and Khoriv and their sister Libid. It was called ‘the mother of all Russian towns’. Many historical places in Kiev remind us of its ancient history. Among them are the Golden Gate, St. Sophia’s Cathedral, St. Vladimir’s Cathedral, Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, St. Andrew’s Church and many others.

There are many wonderful places all around Ukraine: Kanev with the monument to Taras Shevchenko, you may also go to Zaporizhia, to the island of Khortytsia, visit Odesa, the castle “Swallow’s Nest”, it is possible to go through Gogol places in the Poltava Region and see Dickanka, Sorochintsy, there is also Western Ukraine with the Carpathians and their legends, feudal lords’ castles and cathedrals, with their unique culture and nature. There are a lot of places to see in Ukraine and to be proud of. And I am glad to live in such a country, with all those beautiful monuments.

Many centuries ago people lived in harmony with nature because industry was not much developed. There was no ecological problem. Nowadays people live only according to their wants and requirements, they ignore the laws of nature. That's why today the contradictions between man and nature are dramatic. People are slowly destroying the nature environment around them. The Earth is our home that's why we must take measures to fight land pollution and keep our environment clean; we must plant trees and flowers and take care of animals, we must not throw our wastes into the rivers.

In many countries environmental protection organizations such as "Green Peace", "Friend of the Earth", "World Wild Life Fund" are set up which try to put pressure upon the governments that don't care for ecology in their countries. The humankind will be able to survive only if we all realize that environmental protection is our universal concern.

Every body likes holidays because it’s a time when you can have rest and fun and spend time with your friends and relatives. There similar and different holidays in Ukraine and Great Britain. Some holidays we love more, some holidays we love less. The most famous holidays in Ukraine are the New Year, Christmas, the 8th of March (the Women's Day), on the 1st of May we celebrate May Day, on the 9th of May we have Victory Day. In spring we have one more traditional holiday. It is Easter. On the 24th of August we celebrate Independence Day. The 1st of September is a holiday for everybody who studies.

There are fewer public holidays in Great Britain than in other European countries. They are: Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Easter Monday, Spring Bank Holiday. Public holidays in Britain are called bank holidays, because the banks as well as most of the offices and shops are closed.

In the different countries according to their traditions and history, there is a set of various national holidays. But there is one thing, which unites all of them: a holiday is always fun and pleasure.
