2. Participial phrases with Participle II “granted”, “given”.
Some PII have changed into other parts of speech: conjunctions “provided”- за умови, якщо, “granted”- зважаючи, враховуючи, за умови, якщо дійсно, prepositionы “given”- за наявності, з урахуванням, з огляду, беручи до уваги, зважаючи на, якщо враховувати, що.
Granted this limitation, Guimier’s bibliography must nevertheless be regarded as a welcome and useful resource. Зважаючи на це обмеження, бібліографію Гім’є все ж варто розглядати як потрібне і корисне джерело інформації.
3. Inverted Adverbial Modifier.
In the TL the inverted adverbial modifier used in the sentences with the inverted predicate may be left at the beginning of the sentence or be placed at its end.
In Table 2 are the values of the relevant correlations. Величини відповідних співвідношень подано у таблиці 2.
Below are some observations which seem to confirm the claim. Нижче наводяться деякі спостереження, що, здається, підтверджують це положення.
When inversion is used as a means of emphasis? In the TL it is rendered by lexical means (words саме, досить, дуже) before adverbial modifiers.
Herein lies the essence of this claim. Саме в цьому полягає суть його пропозиції.
Rarely is the content of these differences made explicit. Але зміст цих розбіжностей есплікується досить рідко.
In E sentences the inversion of the adverbial modifier is often accompanied by the inversion of the predicate or part of predicate, especially with sentences with (not) only, not until. In the translation the place of the adverbial modifier is not changed, the predicate may be placed before the subject.
Only once is there any mention of the overall organization of the theory. Лише один раз згадується певним чином загальна структура теорії.
In some cases only is translated as дуже, зовсім.
Only rarely may one disagree with Briske’s interpretations. Зовсім рідко можна не погодитися з інтерпретаціями, що їх подає Бріске.
III. The Translation of the Attribute.
Adjectives with the suffix –able, -ible.
Adjectives with the suffix –able, -ible have a passive meaning and are translated with the help of the semantic model «що можна\ може + неозначена форма дієслова».
Movable – що може пересуватися, пересувний, movable installation – пересувна установка.
Explainable – що можна пояснити і зрозуміти, зрозумілий, explainable mistakes – зрозумілі помилки.
So we see such adjectives may be translated in 2 ways:
By adjectives: separable - роз’ємний, attainable - досяжний.
By attributive clauses: measurable – що можна виміряти.
2. Right-hand Attributes.
Right-hand attributes expressed by adjectives in E correspond to left-hand attributes in U.
The choice of method is often dependent upon the resources available. Вибір методу часто залежить від наявних ресурсів.
Right-hand attributes expressed by adjectival word-combinations are rendered by: 1) right-hand adjectival word-combination.
A final caution should be given to the reader unfamiliar with the approach. Нарешті, ще від одного слід застережи ти читача, незнайомого з цим підходом.
2) Left-hand adjectival word-combination.
The formation of terminology adequate to the description of these objects appears to be imperative for future research in the field. Формування відповідної цьому описові термінології видається дуже важливим для розвитку досліджень у цій галузі.
The evidence available today demands closer scrutiny. Наявні на сьогодні дані потребують ретельного аналізу.
By an attributive clause.
He has had an impact very difficult fully to grasp. Він здійснив вплив, який дуже важко повністю збагнути.
