Teacher: Good-afternoon, my favorite group-students! Glad to see you! I hope you are OK. Today’s lesson is rather unusual because we have some highly respected guests here that’s why I’d like you to be more attentive, more confident and more active. I hope the lesson will be interesting for you and you will enjoy it. In order to guess the topic of our today's lesson I want you to watch a short video film. (Video 1)
Teacher: Please, open your exercise books and write down today’s date. It’s Tuesday, the 17 of March. As you already guessed the topic of our lesson is “Ecology.Environmental Problems and Solutions. Environmental Protection” The plan of our lesson is the following.
So, at today’s lesson we’ll:
get to know some information about environmental problems and discuss them;
review the courses of pollution and ways of their reducing;
exchange our opinions about ecological problems;
develop language skills on listening and reading.
The motto of our lesson: “Nature is not a place to visit. It is our home.”
1. Warm-up discussion
Teacher: How can you define the word “Ecology”?
(This word came from the Greek ‘oikos’ which means ‘home’. Home means its population, nature, birds, our planet, fish, insects, and atmosphere.Ecology is the natural balance between plants, animals, people and their environment.)
Teacher: And what is “Environment”?
(It means what is around us. Some people live in a town environment, for some their environment is the countryside.It’s the air we breathe, the soil on which we stand and walk, the water we drink, the forests, the fields, the deserts.)
Teacher: Ok! That’s right. Now please go to the whiteboard and write down the words which you asosiate with them.
Teacher: Yes, everything you see is our environment. Ecology – is our life, fields give us vegetables, fruit, grain. Forests give us the air we breathe, water is also widely important for us.
But the medal has got 2 sides. We do not forget that. What about ecology?
You know, unfortunately, many people all over the world are concerned about the ecology today. Our planet is in great danger nowadays because it has been suffering from many environmental problems. Let’s name some of them. Pronounce them correctly, please.
