Influenza clinic

 • Usually, the flu begins acutely. The incubation period, as a rule, lasts 1-2 days, but can last up to 5 days. • Then a period of acute clinical manifestations begins. The severity of the disease depends on many factors: general health, age, whether the patient has contacted this type of virus before. • Depending on this, the patient may develop one of 4 forms of influenza: mild, moderate, severe and hypertoxic. • Symptoms and their strength depend on the severity of the disease.

Influenza clinic

 • In case of mild (including erased and subclinical) forms of influenza, body temperature may remain normal or rise no higher than 38 ° C, symptoms of infectious toxicosis are mild or absent. • In the case of a moderate (manifest) form of influenza, the temperature rises to 38.5-39.5 ° C and classic symptoms of the disease are noted. • With the development of severe influenza, body temperature rises to 40-40.5 ° C. In addition to the symptoms characteristic of the moderate form of influenza, there are signs of encephalopathy (psychotic conditions, seizures, hallucinations), vascular disorders (nasal bleeding, pinpoint hemorrhages in the soft palate) and vomiting.

COMPLICATIONS OF INFLUENZA

The most common complication of the flu is pneumonia, usually a secondary bacterial infection (caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, or Staphylococcus aureus). • Other secondary bacterial infections that often occur after the flu are rhinitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, otitis media. • Complications from the cardiovascular system is more common in the elderly. May develop myocarditis and pericarditis (inflammatory disease of the heart muscle, which can lead to heart failure).

 COMPLICATIONS OF INFLUENZA

After type B influenza, muscle complications can develop, manifested in myositis and other muscle diseases. Such complications are more common in children and are expressed in muscle pain for several days. • There is also an increase in myoglobin in the urine (myoglobinuria), which can lead to acute impairment of kidney function. Sometimes acute transverse myelitis is noted • Meningitis and encephalitis. • Bacterial superinfection. On the weakened by the influenza organism, a bacterial infection often sets in (pneumococcal, hemophilic, staphylococcal). • After the flu, often exacerbations of chronic diseases such as: bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders, kidney disease and d

                               DIAGNOSTICS

1. Clinical and epidemiological data

2. Express method of immunofluorescence (3 hours)

 3. Serology: RSK and RTGA with paired sera. As standard, standard diagnosticums are used.

 4. Virological method: use washings from the nasopharynx to infect 10-11 day-old chick embryos. For the isolation of viruses, the culture of human embryonic cells (kidney and lung) and monkey kidneys is used.

 5. Perspective ELISA and radioimmunological analysis (RIA), which are 20 times more sensitive than other serological methods.
