Hypertension is a sustained elevation of arterial blood pressure at a level of 140/90 or higher. In most cases it is impossible to establish a definite cause of hypertension. These cases – possibly more than two-third – are called primary hypertension. Other cases, or secondary hypertension, are caused by such conditions, as kidney disease, pregnancy, hyperthyroidism and others. Hypertension is also classified according to the degree of severity, ranging from mild hypertension with a diastolic pressure between 90 – mm Hg to severe hypertension with a diastolic pressure above 115 mm Hg.
Arterial hypertension is one of the most common diseases of our time.
It includes very simple measures – regular check-ups of the population and treating those who have a high blood pressure. It is not so simple to make everyone have the necessary check-ups and courses of treatment.
There are many such factors that play a role in the development of hypertension but the most important ones are: consumption of food rich in cholesterol, excessive weight, alcohol, smoking and inadequate physical exercise.
As observation show, the limitation of only these factory may alter the dynamic of the disease and considerably reduce the risk of heart failure and insult.
