My future profession

Finishing school is the beginning of the independent life for millions of school leavers. Many roads are opened before them: vocational and technical schools, institutes аnd і universities. But it is not an easy thing to choose a profession out of more than 2,000 exiting in the world. Some pupils do this still at the industrial trainig centres, some follow the advice of their parents, others can not decide even after leaving school.

As for me I made my choice long ago. I want to become a teacher of the English language

and literature. My choice of this occupation didn't come as a sudden flash. During all school years English was my favourite subject, I've read a lot of books by British, American and other foreign writers. I understand that reading books helps people in self-education and in solving diferent life problems. 1 would like to teach my pupils to enjoy reading English books in the original, to encourage them to learn the Englisih language and literature.

More and more people realize that every educated person should know a foreign language.

That is why I'm going to become an English teacher. I always remember these words I'm going to teach them to my pupils: "He, who doesn't know a foreign language, doesn’t know his own language".

My parents are also teachers and 1 know that teaching is very specific and difficult job. It shouldn't be taken easy. The teacher is a person who is learning as well as teaching all his life. Most jobs can be done within the usual office hours of 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. but teacher’s work is never done and evenings are mostly spent marking exercise-books and preparing for the next lesson. It is quite a stressful job because you have to encourage your pupils and кeeр them interested.

Teachers do not only teach their subjects. They bring up the younger generation in the spirit

of high moral ideals. It's a great responsibility and the teacher must be a model of competence himself. He should know perfectly the subject he teaches, he must be well-educated and well-informed. An ignorant teacher teaches ignorance, a fearful teacher teaches fear, a bored teacher teaches boredom. But a good teacher develops his pupils' intellect forms their views and characters, their attitudes to life and to other people. I think that's the reason why teachers are deeply respeeted.

It’s not as easy as it may seem at first, 'But 1 think that love for children combined with the

knowledge I'll get at the University would be quite enough to succeed in my work. I’m applying to the English Language Department and I'm sure my dream will cone true sooner or later.
