I am a student of the Ivanovo State University. Our University is quite young. It was organised in 1974 on the basis of the Ivanovo Teachers’ Training Institute. Now it has 9 faculties: the Mathematics Faculty, the Physics Faculty, the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry (natural sciences faculties): the Faculty of Economics, the Law Faculty, the History Faculty, the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology, the Philology Faculty and the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology (the humanities faculties).
The University has daytime and extra-mural departments, preparatory department and post-graduate courses.
The student body is about 5,000 students now.
Our University trains school teachers, instructors for higher educational establishments and technical schools, research workers.
The course of training lasts for 5 or 6 years. The academic year lasts for 10 months. It begins on September the 1st and ends late in June. It is divided into two terms. At the end of each term the students take credit tests and examinations. The students who attend all lectures, seminars and practical classes and prepare for them systematically pass them successfully and never fail. They get good and excellent marks. After each examination session the students have a vacation. At their disposal, the students have all kinds of laboratories, lecture-rooms, study rooms, a good library, some reading rooms and gyms.
The laboratories are provided with the most up-to-date equipment. The students make different experiments there.
From the library the students borrow any book, journal, periodical which they need for their studies.
Lectures are delivered by professors (docents), Masters of Science.
We study many subjects. English is one of them. We have our English twice a week. During the lesson we read, translate and speak English.
Many students carry on research work in different students’ groups and societies under professors and instructors who help the students to develop their abilities in a certain field of science. After graduation some of these students take post-graduate courses. The majority of our students get scholarships.
The students coming from other towns and villages are provided with hostel accommodation. Other students live in lodgings or with their parents. The students take an active part in social life. They attend various conferences and lectures, they discuss the latest books, performances and films. They belong to numerous students’ societies and clubs.
Our students have all the necessary conditions for study and leisure.
