Lessons of liquidating consequences of natural and man-made disasters testify the necessity of conducting search-and-rescue operations in extreme conditions. One of the ways to provide effective response activities is to supply emergency forces with modern rescue means and equipment.

Rescue means and equipment can be classified according to the types of operations they perform and the types of drives they are equipped with. According to the types of operations rescue means and equipment are divided into reconnaissance, search-and-rescue, and emergency-and-rescue ones. According to the types of drives rescue means and equipment are divided into manual, hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, motor, and pyrotechnic.

Rescue means and equipment are employed to distruct constructions, cut different constructional elements, lift and move cargo, collect and transport accident products, etc.

A perfect example of modern rescue means can be special mobile remote control systems. The mobile remote control robot systems are widely used in search and rescue operations. These systems are employed in conducting visual, radiation and chemical reconnaissance. They are also used to provide technological operations in the areas with high levels of chemical and radioactive contamination.

A mobile robot system is mounted on the base of a truck and comprises a two-axle trailer with a diesel-generator set and a hoisting gear.
