I. Перепишите и переведите предложения. Определите грамматические значения (функции) окончания -s / -es, т.е. служит ли оно: 1) показателем 3-го лица единственного числа глагола в Present Simple; 2) признаком множественного числа имени существительного; 3) показателем притяжательного падежа имени существительного.

1. English is the official language of the UK, but not everyone speaks the same kind of English.

II. Перепишите и переведите предложения, обращая внимание на степени сравнения прилагательных и сравнительные конструкции.

III. Перепишите предложения и переведите их, учитывая особенности перевода существительных в функции определения.

2. The school year in Great Britain is divided into 3 terms; they are three-month-terms, named after seasons: the autumn term, the winter term and the spring term.

3. Harrods (in Knightsbridge) is the best department store in the UK and the largest in Europe and has a developed customer care service.

IV. Перепишите и переведите предложения, обращая внимание на неопределенные и отрицательные местоимения.

1. Nowadays Britain is no longer the ‘workshop of the world’, but a nation of a service industry and retailing of all sorts.

2. There are some strict requirements for people getting visa to England and many other English-speaking countries.

3. Do you have any cross-cultural misunderstandings with your foreign counterparts?

V. Перепишите и переведите предложения, обращая внимание на конструкцию there be.

1. There is an official bilingual policy in Wales: road signs are in English and Welsh (валлийский язык).

2. There are 10 national parks in England and Wales and 2 such areas in Scotland. Are there any national parks in Russia?

3. There won’t be any problems with your travel to Europe, if you make all the travel arrangements in advance.

VI. Перепишите предложения. Выпишите из них глаголы-сказуемые, определите их видовременные формы и укажите инфинитив. Переведите предложения.

1. My friend likes Great Britain and is visiting it now to attend some of the most important traditional sporting contests that take place at approximately the same time every year.

2. Tourists will learn more about Dublin’s places of interest, if they read some travel guides or go to any sightseeing excursion.

3. They made the analysis of the climatic changes: the weather on the islands has been very unstable and will have changed greatly by the end of the century.
