Recommendations for writing a précis
Précis is a short summary of a speech or piece of writing. When writing a précis you will need the following recommendations:
First, write an outline of the main ideas – those you see as most important.
Second, start your précis by creating context (setting) and presenting the method that the author used to defend this thesis, book, article, etc.
Third, always state the name of the article, book, document, etc., the author and the source.
In one sense a précis should give the basic narrative of the article, book, etc. and its basic arguments, facts, examples, dates.
Recommendation for modeling communicative simulation activities
Simulation activities are replicating reality for language study purpose. Simulation can take the form of role-play and problem-solving.
The steps of running a role-play in the lesson are as follows:
Choosing role-playing participants
Arranging communication setting
Distributing the roles
Selecting the language
Developing the plot
Acting out the role-play
Reflecting on the procedure (plot development, using the language, finding the resolution to the drama)
