At the Dental surgery
A patient, holding his hand at his right cheek, came into the surgeon's room.
Patient - Good morning, doctor.
Surgeon - Good morning. Come in, please. What's your trouble? What do you complain of?
Patient - Oh, doctor. I did not sleep the whole night because of an unbearable pain in my right lower moral. I have been to the therapeutist to day but he said that my tooth had gross caries and nothing could be done to save it.
Surgeon - Well, well. Go and sit in that chair at the window. Sit comfortably. I
shall fix your head in a steady state. Open your mouth. Wider, please. I see. You should have you tooth out. Have you been to the X-ray room?
Patient - Yes. I have. Here is the film of my tooth. The therapeutist said the root was affected.
Surgeon - Yes, he is right. Then let us make the operation now. Are you ready? Aren't you afraid?
Patient - Oh, yes, doctor, I am ready. I was waiting for it all the night. I am afraid a little, but it doesn't matter. I hope the operation will bring me a relief and a taste to life.
The surgeon fixed the position of the patient in the chair and covered him with a clean sheet.
Surgeon - (to the nurse). - Get ready the set of necessary instruments and Novocain solution for injection, please.
Surgeon - (to the patient). Open your mouth. I'll give you're a local anesthesia and you will not feel any pain. Calm down, please.
He filled the syringe with an anesthesia solution, pricked the gum and said: Surgeon - Wait for some minutes till Novocain begins to effect.
In ten minutes he asked:
Surgeon - How do you feel now?
Patient - My tongue and lips begin to numb and I can hardly speaking.
The surgeon took his teeth forcept and said:
Surgeon - Don't speak. Open your mouth. Count to ten to yourself. Here it is! Look at your bad tooth in my hand! Was the extraction painful?
The patient negatively shook his head.
Surgeon - All right. Spit up your saliva and blood into the spittoon. Don't eat or drink for two hours. Go home and have a rest after this procedure. If you feel a bad pain after anesthesia comes out, take the analgetic tablets. I'll give you a prescription, (writes out the prescription and gives it to the patient). I wish you all the best and advise you not to neglect your teeth.
Patient - Thank you, doctor. I'll do everything you have told me. Good bye, doctor.
Surgeon - Good-bye.

Text A
Tumors of Jaws and Oral Mucosa.
Tumors of Odontogenic Origin. Odontogenic tumors are the most common tumors of the jaws. They may be composed of one or all the tissues that make up the normal tooth, or they contain only odontogenic cells at any stage of development, without producing the characteristic intercellular structures. Some tumors are formed from the epithelial cells which make up the enamel organ; these are spoken of as epithelial odontomas. Others are formed from the mesenchimal part of the tooth germ. If no tooth substance is produced, we speak of soft odontomas. If intercellular structures are developed and calcified, the name "hard odontoma" is applied. Odontomas may be made up of both epithelial and mesenchymal derivatives, then we speak of a composite odontoma. Odontogenic tumors may form at any place in the jaws, but trey are most common in the third molar region.
Tumors of Osteogenic Origin. Osteogenic tumors of the jaws, like those of the rest of the skeleton, are derived from osteogenic tissue, that is cells and ancestors of cells which, when fully differentiated, are know as osteoblasts.
Slowly growing benign tumours may have the same stage of development, so that the pure myxoma, chondroma, and osteoma result. In the rapidly growing tumors we often see at one time all the stages of transformation of connective tissue cells into the bony cells, each daveloping its characteristic intercellular structure. The osteogenic sarcoma contains, therefore, areas of fibrosarcoma, myxosarcoma, or chondrosarcoma, and, if the cells have progressed to the osteoblastic stage, osteoid or bone.

Ex. 5. Translate into Russian. Pay attention to the impersonal sentences.
It was reported that patient has been suffering from a tooth pain for several hours.
It seems that the pathologic changes in the mucosa of the mucous membrane of the mouth are responsible for the development of malignant tumour of the gum.
It was stated that the patient had developed prostration after severe pains cause by inflammation of the tooth nerve.
It is know that the growth of the bones and teeth as well as the body generally makes a special demand in calcium supply.
It appeared that the deficiency of calcium had led to the imperfect building of bones and teeth.
