Simulation Game

International Scientific Conference “Modern Technologies”

This simulation game was developed and performed by postgraduate students of Volgograd State Technical University under Doctor of Pedagogical Science, Professor A.M. Mitina. It was conducted as a final test at the end of the English course before the candidate examination. The reports made by the postgraduates reflected the subjects of their scientific work. It may be treated as a model and be modified to any other requirements and fields of science.

1. The Opening Address

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues!

It is a great pleasure for me as Chairman of the Organizing Committee to welcome you in Louisville at the International Scientific Conference on Modern Technologies sponsored by the American Scientific Society. I’d like to give a special welcome to the participants from President of the USA Barack Obama, who has sent a special greeting letter. I’d like to ask our programme coordinator Sarah Mason to read it.

Sarah Mason: “Ladies and gentlemen!

It's with great pleasure that I warmly welcome you all on the opening of the International Scientific Conference on Modern Technologies. This is a special day not just for you who have come to Louisville but for everybody associated with science and technology. The pace of intellectual and technical change in the world grows ever faster. We can see it around us in every scientific, economic discipline. The drivers of that fast process of change are the world's great scientific universities, institutions with the world's greatest and most creative people within them, thinking unthinkable thoughts, creating unthinkable ideas. So we look to our future with hope of opening up new areas of opportunity in the fields of science and research. I am sure that such gatherings will foster international scientific progress and will forge highly productive and mutually beneficial links with scientists of different countries. I wish you great success. President of the USA B. Obama”.

Chairman: Thank you Mrs. Mason. I express our warmest welcome to Professor Ivan Novakov, Rector of Volgograd State Technical University, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Science, Doctor of Technical Science, who has found the time to attend our meeting. I would like to extend a particular welcome to our colleagues from other countries, especially to the Russian delegation of young scientists. We are pleased that so many researchers from all over the world have come to attend this conference.

Two years have passed since our last meeting in Great Britain. It is certainly a short time, but it has turned out to be very fruitful. However, our knowledge of some problems in Modern Technologies still remains incomplete. Our main goal in holding this conference is to discuss various aspects of modern technologies in chemistry, automobile industry and metallurgy. The range of subjects to be considered is quite large. But it is our hope that the conference will show the current state of things and stimulate new ideas. This meeting has brought together scientists with different points of view, with different backgrounds of training and experience, so we expect stimulating discussions of theoretical and experimental problems.
