Introducing yourself and others.
How do you do, everybody! / Good morning, ladies and gentlemen /everyone. Welcome to Belarusian State University.
I hope you will make a lot of friends here and enjoy learning.
First, allow me to introduce myself: I’m a senior teacher/associate professor/professor of the Department of English Language and Speech Communication, my name is .... We will work together during the first year of your study and I hope that our cooperation will be mutually interesting and fruitful.
A few words about myself: I graduated from... and I have been teaching English for/since...
You know that university teachers usually combine practical work with research activities. As for my scientific interests.....
Now, let me outline briefly the aims of the English language course and main organizational requirements. You will have English classes once / twice a week during the first and the second years of your study. Great emphasis is made on your independent work (самостоятельная работа)......
I’ll tell you about the Department of English Language and Speech Communication later.
Thanks very much for your attention. Are there any questions?
… Now I’d like to introduce you a book and the main goals of Unit 1. As the main aim of our today’s lesson is to get to know each other better, let’s review some basic rules of introducing yourselves and other people ..
(Part A. Skills Development).
1 «Do you know the right way to address people in English?»
Get ready with one of the tasks on your choice:
• to write an article “We are people with common interests, yet we are different”
• to make a poster “Group Portrait”
• to draw a diagram illustrating your common interests and differences.
Be ready to make presentations of the chosen task at your next lesson.
(for advanced students) Read the text: group A -- ‘Do you know the basic rules of introductions?,’ group B -- ‘Safe and Unsafe Subjects for Talk’ , group С – Untitled text. Be ready to exchange information.
Unit 2. Language learning experience. Defining objectives for the future,
Developing communication skills:
1. Getting ready for presentations.
