EXERCISE 13.
A) READ CRISTINA’S LETTER. CAN YOU GIVE HER A PIECE OF ADVICE?
Dear Mrs. Gently, I’m really unhappy. I began a diet last week, but I haven’t lost any weight. I feel bad about my weight. I’m depressed because I’m not feeling well. What should I do? Unhappy Cristina |
B) READ MRS. GENTLY’S LETTER. THEN PROCEED TO THE TASK
Dear Cristina, Your body runs better when it gets the right food. It needs carbohydrates, protein, fats, water, vitamins, and minerals. Imagine your body is like a car. A car needs gas (carbohydrates) to make the motor run. It needs oil (a little fat) to help things work smoothly. It needs water so it doesn't get hot. And it needs spark plugs (vitamins and minerals) so the engine can use the gas. The soda you drank and the doughnut you ate didn't have all the right nutrients to help your body run like a car. I advise you to make an appointment with your doctor. He’ll help you with the diet plan. But avoid “junk food”. These foods contain lots of sugar, fat, and salt. Snacks such as potato chips, corn chips, cookies, and sodas are junk food. Mrs. Gently |
EXERCISE 14.
A) DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS WITH THE PARTNER
Why does our body run better when it gets the right food?
What do we need carbohydrates (fat, water, vitamins and minerals) for?
In what food can we find these nutrients?
How many meals a day do you have?
What is your daily meal plan?
What would you like to change about it?
Why do you think it is so difficult to keep to a healthy diet?
What is “junk food’? Find ‘junk food’ in the picture below.
Do you like junk food? How often do you eat chips and drink soda?
Figure out five things you would like to change in your eating habits.
