Разница между a piece of и a bit

A piece of и a bit переводятся на русский язык обычно одинаково – немного (кусок).

A piece of употребляется перед существительными. При этом артикль перед неисчисляемыми существительным опускается: a piece of bread, a piece of wallpaper (рулон обоев), a piece of music (музыкальное произведение, музыкальный фрагмент). С исчисляемыми существительными артикль употребляется: a piece of a song (отрывок песни), a piece of a story (отрывок рассказа).

A (little) bit употребляется чаще всего перед прилагательными: He is a (little) bit angry (/sleepy, lucky, crazy, shy).

Но: She is a little bit in love with him – Она немножко влюблена в него.

(sleepy – сонный; crazy – сумасшедший; shy – застенчивый.)

Jack: These clothes don't fit any more. They're too small.

Jill: We need something new. Let's go shopping this afternoon.

Jack is pouring sneezing powder on Helen through the chinks in the floor.

Jack: And you must have some new socks. Your toes are coming through the socks.

Jill: Oh…
