Text: Household duties. (Tom)
I believe that household duties are very important in the life of the family as they help us to be more responsible. Everyone in our family treats his duties very seriously.
My mother usually goes shopping because she is the only one who knows best which products we need. She drives to the supermarket twice a week. I always help her to take heavy bags and packets out of the car and bring them home. [1] ……. We all like her cooking. She is especially good at cooking meat with vegetables and baking pies.
My grandmother cooks food when mum is too busy. She makes tasty cakes and pies and cooks delicious strawberry jam. [2] …… Besides, she meets my sister from school on weekdays.
My father usually works long hours and he is very tired at the end of the day. However, he has his own duties at home. [3] …….For example, he repairs electrical appliances when they are out of order. He has already repaired our mother's electric iron and a mixer. [4] ……..This is his hobby.
My chore is to do the washing up after dinner and carry out the garbage. [5] ……... My sister’s duties are to water the flowers and put her toys on their places. [6]……… .
On Saturday all the family is busy with their chores as we make our flat neat. My father cleans the carpet with a vacuum-cleaner. My mother washes the linen in a washing machine. I wash the floors and clean the dust as usually. [7] ……… After all, we all lay the table and have dinner all together. Then we spend some time discussing different problems and events of the week. Finally, we enjoy the rest of the day doing things we like.

Task 5. Make your own sentences with the word combinations and phrases from task 4.
Task 6*. Read the text. What new technologies would you like to apply in your home?
Text: Smart house.
Smart house is very similar to an ordinary house, but it is filled with technology! The smart house has the control center. You can also manage the house with the help of an IPhone, your laptop or smart TV. Everything is perfect for work and relaxation!
Cords and wires are likely to disappear from our homes after 2015.Extremely efficient batteries will provide cable-free operation of many household devices, including vacuum cleaners, computers, irons, coffee machines etc... For this reason plug sockets will be replaced by battery re-charging stations. Most of the electricity required in such wireless power networks will be generated by conventional technology, although advanced solar panels, wind and wave power generators will become quite common.
Movable walls made of lightweight sound-proof materials will allow us to section off another bedroom for a visitor or create a large single space to host a party in just half an hour. Other walls may function as huge screen displays. Still more flexibility will be achieved with multi-purpose furniture. At our request it will change structure and shape, or even the colour and texture of the covering.
By 2050 computers will be almost in complete control of our homes. Small and cheap, they will sense changes outside and inside and adjust light, temperature and humidity levels automatically. They will check efficient use of energy for heating and cooling and operate numerous electro-mechanical devices, e.g. they will immediately detect litter dropped on the floor and send a robot vacuum cleaner to clean it up.
