Text: Sport in our Life.

Sport is popular among young and old people. Many people do morning exercises and train themselves in different sections and take part in sport competitions.

Some people say they like sport, but they only watch sport games and listen to sport news. They prefer reading stories about sportsmen. But they don’t go in for sports.

Sport helps people to be strong, brave and keep fit. We can go in for sports in winter and in summer, indoors and outdoors. It is very useful to walk a lot, to play active games, to spend a lot of time in the fresh air. Various gyms, stadiums, fitness centres, courts, fields and rinks are open for those who love sport.

Physical training is an important subject at schools, colleges and universities. Students have got physical training lessons twice a week as a rule.

There are some kinds of sport which are very popular in our country: football, volleyball, basketball, hockey, gymnastics, skiing, skating, figure skating. In Britain, however, cricket and golf are the most favourite. Americans are keen on baseball, basketball and rugby. The Australians are interested in water sports.

Many kinds of sports are included into the Olympic Games. The Olympic Games are the greatest international sports games in the world. They have an interesting and long history. They began more than two thousand years ago in Greece. Now it’s a great festival of sport, health, peace and friendship for the whole world.

As for me, I like sport very much. I am good at swimming. I visit a fitness centre 3 times a week. Besides, I’m a candidate for Master of Sports in kickboxing.

To sum up, all kinds of sport are full of exercise and excitement and every person can find the sport to his taste.

Player 1: We’re trying, Coach, but we’re fighting a losing battle.

Player 2: Yeah, Greenmont High are much better than us.

Coach: Rubbish! You’re good enough to beat them. Work as a team! Spread out! Pass the ball around the court!

Player 1: We’ll try, Coach! Come on guys! It’s not too late to even the score.

Player 2: That’s the spirit! Let’s show what team work is!

Text: My favorite sport.

My favourite sport is football. It is played by two teams, equal in number. The eleven players take up their position on the field. The centre forward stands at the centre. On the right are the inside right and the outside right, on the left are the inside left and the outside left. The three half-backs are stationed behind the forward line. The goal is protected by the right back, the left back and the goalkeeper. No handling is allowed except by the goalkeeper. Excellent technique, flexible modern tactics and good teamwork are characteristic features of modern football. I can play football with my friends on the open ground in summer, or in the gym in winter.
