A letter to a Ukrainian Student

My name is Ted Bell. I'm at college at Dublin and take chemistry. I want to tell you of my homeland. The land I live in is a little island [’alənd] in the sea. The capital of my homeland is Dublin. It's a big city but it's not as big as London [’lÃndən] is.

My homeland looks nice and lovely indeed (по-справжньому) in summer time. This is the time when we can see much of the sun up in the sky. We get up and go to bed by day in summer. You cannot sleep late on a sunny day, can you? I cannot and I feel fine on such days.

I can't say the same about winter time. We don't see much of the sun on winter days. This is the time when we get lots of gloomy days and no sun in the gloomy sky. I don't feel well on such days, I must say.

In fact, we have moments when the island looks lovely in winter time too. This is the time when we have moony nights [nats]. We can often see the moon in the black winter sky at nights and it is lovely indeed. Do you like moony nights? I love them.

When I must get up by night on a gloomy winter day I don't feel well and to stimulate myself I say: "Get up! Get up! You lazy chap! Get up as fast as you can. You must have a snack and take a cup of hot black instant coffee. You must come on time and must feel fine. Get up! You lazy chap!"

It's nice if you come and see my homeland. You may come to my land any ['en] time you like in winter and in summer. You can come to my homeland by plane and by sea.
