Young People’s Problems Dialogue
A Hello, Kostya! All set for the Russian Language and Literature exam?
B Hello, Dima! You mean the essay? Yes, I think I’ve worked through all the major topics. You knew I had some extra coaching.
A That’s exactly what I want to talk to you about. I believe we’re going to have the topic “Young people’s problems”. About how difficult it is to get into the university even if you are well-prepared for one.
B Sure. I knew that. I remember the famous expression “The world is their oyster”. But our present-day life is hard not just for adults, but for young people too.
A Yes, choosing the right direction is not so easy.
B And even if you have chosen, there are still problems. For example, my friend has always wanted to be a lawyer, ever since he was a child. And you know how hard it is to get into Law School.
A Just getting into the university nowadays is a huge problem. And then finding a job. So difficult to plan your future in our present unstable society.
B It’s fine if your wishes and your parents’ dream for you happen to coincide. Otherwise it’s the age-old problem of “fathers and sons”.
A Like in Turgenev’s story? You’re probably right. So what else do we need to say about this topic? What other problems do we have to discuss?
B Well, the problem of pocket money, for example. You really want to be well-dressed, take your friends out to the café, even just go th the cinema. It’s fine if you can find a part-time job. But even that’s difficult if you’re not trained.
A Listen, maybe we could write about love in this essay? That’s really important when you’re young.
