  1. Read the text about advertising and give Ukrainian equivalents of the underlined words or expressions. The power of persuasion

Advertising is a means of communication between an organisation and its target audience using space or time purchased in the media (TV, radio, glossy magazines, newspapers, websites, billboards, etc.). Businesses generally use the services of advertising agencies to create advertising campaigns that use combinations of commercials, posters, print adverts or internet pop-ups in order to publicise their products or services and persuade consumers to buy. Increasingly, advertisers are using other forms of promotion to draw attention to what they want to sell. Nowadays, due to the growing diversity of media and the arrival of new technologies, consumers are getting better-informed and some of the traditional methods of advertising and marketing simply no longer work. But spending on advertising is expected to grow from year to year. How will the money be spent? There are plenty of alternatives to straightforward advertising. They range from public relations to direct mail and include consumer promotions (such as special offers), in-store displays, business-to-business promotions (like paying a retailer for shelf space), telemarketing, exhibitions, sponsoring events, product placements, product demonstrations (like parking car models in shopping malls and motorway service stations) and more. These have become such an inseparable part of the industry that big agencies are now willing to provide most of them. And the debate in the industry centres on the best way to achieve cost-effective results. All new developments pose huge creative challenges to the advertising business which continues to be relentlessly inventive.
