That the method is too To,

complicated is obvious.

What is written without effort is To,

in general read without pleasure

(S. Johnson).

Whether these two phenomena

are related has yet to be - два явления, еще предстоит

discovered.

Whether or not these cells inter-

act with others has to be

checked.

Whether or not these conditions

hold in every case is not yet

clear.

Who will do it depends on the

circumstances.

How it has been done does not

matter.

Why he has not come may only

be quested.

1. What we read in his book was of great interest. 2. Which restriction is best must be decided. 3. Where a thing is used often makes a lot of difference. 4. That their experiment is a success is obvious. 5. How important his work was is clear to everybody. 6. Whether the test is to be carried out once more is not yet decided. 7. Whether or not these products will be abandoned remains to be seen. 8. What we like depends on what we are used to.

22 (that), 29 (what), 45 (far), 68 (whether).

1. That it is easy to confuse the two notions is indicated by this example. 2. Whether or not this synthesis will take place is not known. 3. How the plus and minus came into use is a matter of considerable conjecture. 4. What has been achieved thus far is insight into economic mechanisms. 5. How pleasant work can be is shown by a simple fact. 6. What a decision problem is must be clearly defined. 7. Whether the methods have been used since then is not known. 8. Whether the agreement will be signed is not clear. 9. Which method is preferred depends entirely on circumstances. 10. Whether or not a social system evolves and survives is dependent of the efficiency with which it processes information.

(I do not know whether he is here — Я не знаю, здесь ли он. §§ 126, 187)

2) будь то (in any situation whether it is simple or complex one must make a decision — В любой ситуации, будь то простая или сложная, нужно принимать (какое-то) решение)

(The method is useful whether the starting material is pure or contaminated — Этот метод подходит независимо от того, является ли исходный материал чистым или загрязненным).

whether or not — см. §§ 126, 127. (Whether or not the idea is fruitful it is brilliant — (Независимо от того) является ли эта идея плодотворной или не является, она великолепна)
